Dallow is a suburb district of Luton, Bedfordshire. It is located westward of Luton’s Town center. Its distance from the town centre is approximately 1 mile. Dallow, sitting on the OS grid reference, TL 059227, it has its northern boundary as Hatters way, it has Ashburnham Road on its Southern boundary while on its Western and Eastern boundaries it has Mi and Brantwood Road respectively.
Dallow, prior to the massive development that occurred in Luton was a rural area whose residents dealt on agriculture only. Thus, most of the buildings found in Dallow were constructed from the 19th century to early 20th century. The recent businesses such as Davis gas Factory, CWS Cocoa Works and Brown’s Timberyard were opened in the early 20th century which slightly developed the surrounding areas in the mid 1920s.
Dallow is known for the Rothesay Castle which served as the seat of power as its deceased residents were Marquesses and earls of Bute who stayed at the castle in the eighteenth century and were wealthy landowners. Thus, certain buildings were mapped out to serve as the Preservation Area for Luton’s Rothesay. Two building structures are commonly seen in Dallow district ; semi detached houses, importing Edwardian art deco style, usually found on Brantwood Road ; Ornate and colourful balconies was a common feature of houses sited on Ashburnham Road.
According to the Census figure published in 2011,Dallow has a population of 16,393. 10.4% of this figure are of white racial origin, 67.2% and 7.6% are of Asian and Black racial origins respectively.
Dallow forms part of the bigger Dallow ward, of which the famous Bury Park is among. Dallow Park has three representatives ;Clir Mohammed Ashraf, Clir Mohammed Farooq , Clir Tatheen Sharif (all belong to the Labour Party).
Dallow ward, as a part of Luton South’s Parliamentary constituency, has Rachel Hopkins (a Labour Party member) as its MP.
