Leagrave, a former village is found under the suburbs of Luton. It is situated northwest of Luton Town. On its northern boundary, it has Vincent Road and Torquay Drive while its Southern boundary has Roman road and Leagrave Park. The east and west have Marsh Road and M1 respectively.
As a result of its 35- minutes proximity to London, it serves as home for different travelers. This accounts for the over two million people that use the train station annually. The first settlement of the area now regarded as Leagrave was Wauluds Bank which is now a protected artifact. Leagrave also has Icknield Way, an ancient Roman road that still exists. It also has the famous River Lea which passes through the boundary of Danelaw.
Leagrave as a village was formed in 1866 as part of the’ ecclesiastical parish ‘, it however got civil parish status in 1896 after the Local Government Act of 1894. During the first World War, the Hewlett & Blondeau limited company was formed for manufacturing airplanes. This, in no small measure led to the development of the area. The company was however sold to Electrolux and the latter company continued its developmental strides until a part of its building was sold off for erecting housing estates.
The Grange avenue of the state serves as the center of the town as a result of its commercial outlook. It also houses the Leagrave Park ‘ a home to sporting activities and habitat for wildlife. Leagrave as a district also houses two churches : St Lukes and Leagrave’ s Methodist church.
As regards Education, Leagrave has a plethora of primary schools. Some of them are : Beechwood Primary school, Leagrave Primary school, Lealands High School.
Leagrave, a sporting hub is also the home of Kent Athletic F. C, and also hosts the annual Youth festival which has been described by its residents as the most exciting event in Luton. Leagrave which falls under the Leagrave ward has three representatives : Clir Waheed Akbar, Clir Maria lovel and Clir Sameria Salean ( members of Labour Party)
